Modern Open Kitchen Remodel in Aptos, CA

CLIENT NEEDS

These Aptos homeowners reside in a coveted cul-de-sac within a desirable neighborhood. Upon reaching out to Talmadge Construction, they sought assistance with their outdated kitchen and adjoining living room, plagued by low soffits. Furthermore, the entryway contained dark closets, intensifying a sense of confinement and dimness due to limited natural light.

TALMADGE SOLUTION

Talmadge Construction’s design team devised a comprehensive solution, eliminating soffits and closets while incorporating new lighting and completely renovating the kitchen. The project also involved replacing old tile and grout, remodeling the laundry room and pantry, and enhancing the front entry with new tile that complemented the refreshed stain on the existing floors.

The cabinets feature Alder lowers and paint-grade uppers, complemented by brand new appliances. We installed an exquisite onyx tile backsplash imported from overseas and further accented the kitchen with leathered Taj Mahal countertops.  Additional lighting was strategically placed under cabinets, and custom inserts were integrated for enhanced organization.

Collaborating closely with the homeowner, our architect meticulously designed the interiors of the cabinets, laundry, and pantry to optimize storage and efficiency. We upgraded the old downdraft with a new induction oven and hood, and behind the scenes, a new electrical H20 water heater was seamlessly integrated to operate with solar power.

To enhance the entrance, we crafted a custom Fir front door. In the living room, we extended the elegance with the same onyx tile around the fireplace, which underwent a comprehensive update including a new box installation, removal of a soffit, shelf replacement, and repainting.

CHALLENGE

Old houses often present challenges, and this one had undergone a previous remodel that posed its own set of obstacles. Some ceiling supports had been removed during that renovation, necessitating shoring up the ceiling once again. Additionally, the previous owners had plastered over the popcorn ceiling, making it tricky to seamlessly integrate the new ceiling with the old one.

These Aptos homeowners underwent a stunning remodel that not only enhanced the aesthetics but also brought modern functionality to their space. From custom storage solutions to carefully curated lighting, every detail was thoughtfully considered. The result?
