CLIENT NEEDS

Three sisters reached out to Talmadge Construction to breathe new life into the outdated bathrooms of their family beach house, a Mid-Century Ranch-style home. The primary bath still had carpet flooring—an impractical choice for daily use—while the secondary bath featured worn sheet linoleum. Both spaces felt closed-in due to bulky, enclosed showers that made the rooms appear smaller.

Inefficient cabinetry further limited functionality. The family envisioned lighter, more open bathrooms with improved storage solutions and a serene, spa-like feel. At the top of their wish list: a relaxing soaking tub and a layout that better supported their everyday routines.

To meet the homeowners’ goals, we kept the original layout intact but introduced meaningful updates that significantly enhanced both flow and functionality. We reworked the cabinetry for smarter storage, added custom vanities topped with sleek slab countertops, and swapped out bulky enclosures for frameless glass shower screens that make the rooms feel open and airy. In the primary bath, we added a deep soaking tub, thoughtfully positioned to serve as a calming centerpiece.

Carefully curated materials helped bring the vision to life. Durable melamine thermo-composite flooring provided a clean, modern foundation, while coordinated wall tiles and shower trays maintained a seamless look. A soft, coastal-inspired color palette tied everything together—delivering a bright, breezy aesthetic that feels perfectly at home in Aptos.

CHALLENGE
